Vicksburg library gets technology overhaul

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) - The Warren County - Vicksburg Library serves nearly 50,000 residents and was in need of a serious technology upgrade. Lockheed Martin Vice President of Enterprise IT Solutions and Vicksburg resident Angela Heise saw the need as an opportunity for her company and coworkers to give back to the community.

Lockheed Martin donated $40,000 and consulting services to completely upgrade the library's IT infrastructure. The library, located at 700 Veto Street in Vicksburg, received new computers and a faster network to support its Internet Cafe, staff and public wireless internet, according to a press release.

Over a two-month period, Lockheed Martin personnel partnered with Cisco Systems, which also donated $18,000 in equipment, to replace 11 public access computers and transform the network. Employees from both companies worked on their lunch breaks and after hours to install and configure the new equipment and advise library staff on the technology.

“We were thrilled that Angela and her team recognized our library as a place of knowledge and information access for so many of our local residents, and chose to help transform our Internet Café into a state-of-the-art facility,” said Library Director Debbie Mitchel.
