Lance Logan death still a mystery to police | Crime
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- It may be left up to a Forrest County grand jury to decide if the shooting death of a University of Southern Mississippi student from Vicksburg in July was a suicide, accident or homicide.
Lance Logan, 23, was found shot to death in an apartment at the Point O' Woods apartment complex off of N. 38th Avenue in Hattiesburg. Initially, the coroner's report indicated suicide, but an autopsy prompted authorities to switch it to a homicide investigation. The autopsy reportedly showed the possibility of defensive wounds on the victim and that the range of the bullet was not consistent with suicide.
Police say they have interviewed several people, but no arrests have been made. District attorney Patricia Burchell says the case file will now be presented to the September grand jury for a final determination. That jury can rule if the shooting was a suicide, an accident, or they recommend that authorities continue to investigate the case as a homicide.
According to USM's website Logan was a senior international business major from Vicksburg. He served as director of campus development for the SGA and later as vice president of the organization in 2010. Logan served two years in the United States Army.
