Victim identified in fatal I-20 wreck | News

The Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol is investigating the death of a man who was struck and killed around 7 a.m. Friday morning on Interstate 20.

According to Cpl. Odis Easterling of MHP, the victim had experienced car trouble, so he pulled over and got out of his car. He was struck by a westbound vehicle as he walked toward Vicksburg near Mile Marker 9.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Poindexter of Newellton, La.

Cpl. Easterling says the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck that hit Poindexter stopped when he realized what had happened. He is identified as Robert Gaskin, 56, of Bolton. Gaskin was treated at a nearby hospital and released.
