Murdered Vicksburg student laid to rest | News
HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - A Southern Miss student, who was killed last week in a Hattiesburg apartment complex, was laid to rest Monday in Columbia.
Twenty-four-year old Lance Logan was remembered on Monday morning during a funeral mass at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Hattiesburg.
Following the funeral, Logan was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia with military honors. Lance Logan was a former active duty member of the Army, who attended the United States Military Academy at West Point.
At Southern Miss, Logan was a senior International Business major, who was minoring in German. He was the Student Government Association's Vice President last year and was scheduled to graduate from the university in December.
Last Thursday, his body was found in the Point O Woods apartment complex off 38th Avenue in Hattiesburg. Authorities initially thought the death was a suicide but following a partial autopsy the case has now been ruled a homicide.
Lance Logan was a Vicksburg native who also has family members in Columbia.
On Monday, Lieutenant Eric Proulx with the Hattiesburg Police Department said no suspects are in custody and investigators are still following leads.
He added there was no greater public safety threat associated with this case because the murder was not a random act of violence.
