Monday and Tuesday the Vicksburg National Military Park and Natchez Trace Parkway staff conducted prescribed burns at the military park.
According to the park:
The supervised ignitions took place at Ft. Hill and Graveyard Road areas. The prescribed burns help in the overall maintenance of park landscape, reducing the accumulation of hazardous fuels, controlling the spread of invasive plant species, and providing a more historically accurate viewshed.
