The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks recently captured a bear it says is the largest ever documented in Mississippi.
The 10-year-old, 432-pound bear was captured on private land in Issaquena County in the Valley Park area, according to the MDWFP.
The capture was part of a joint research project between MDWFP and Mississippi State University. The project hopes to gain a better understanding of the bear population, habitats and home ranges.
This bear was originally captured in May 2005 on Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge, according to the MDWFP.
